Regional Updates Include the Cities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Corona, Riverside, Yucaipa, and Highland.

A Tenants United group has formed in Anaheim modeled after the Tenants Together group in Santa Ana and various locations around the State. Visit their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TuAnaheim/ and website https://tenantsunitedanaheim.org to see what they are up to. Orange Juice Blog’s Vern Nelson is a huge supporter of rent control. He rents in Anaheim. We are monitoring all of this very closely.

Costa Mesa, like other cities, is providing Tenant Based Rental Assistance from federal funds they receive to help homeless and low-income renters. The city of Riverside is funding a similar rent assistance fund for residents who are 70 years of age or older, veterans and have been on the Section 8 waiting list in the city.  MHET was an exhibitor at a Riverside sponsored mobile home park senior citizens resource fair on Saturday, May 3. The fair was held in a senior mobile home park with two parks invited to attend. There were eleven exhibitors all from government agencies except MHET. A total of only 32 park residents attended. City staff involved in putting the fair together expected 200 to attend. For some reason city officials have bought into the notion that mobile home owners are underserved and needy constituents. In this case, they found out the park residents had better things to do on Saturday morning.

The Yucaipa city council will consider MHET, WMA and park owner comments and recommendations regarding the city’s biennial review of one of the most restrictive rent control ordinances in the state. Tenant rent control agitators are again working in the city of Highland.  Residents of a Highland park lead by the “community organizer” approached a council member complaining about rent increases, the Spectrum bulk internet service to the park and more.

Thank goodness the mayor and members of the city council are familiar with MHET’s work on behalf of park residents and always contact MHET when issues arise in a mobile home park.
